Last-minute rush to settle summonses

Last-minute rush to settle summonses

PETALING JAYA: Frantic motorists thronged police stations and post offices nationwide to pay and avoid having their names blacklisted by the Road Transport Department.

Many more are expected to clear their summonses today as the deadline to settle traffic summonses at a discount ends today.

MyEG managing director Wong Thean Soon said www.myeg.com.my had processed around 150,000 to 200,000 payment transactions a day over the last few days.

“We also received around 500,000 summons checking requests a day for the past week.”

Bernama reported that post offices in the Klang Valley were well patronised yesterday.

A survey it conducted showed that the Taman Melawati post office was among the most packed. It was not so crowded at the Mindef post office, however.

However, it said that gaining access to the police, Myeg, and an interactive e-government website, Rilek eService was difficult due to heavy traffic.

The situation is expected to persist until 5pm today with traffic offenders expected to settle their summonses by credit cards or by debiting their accounts.

The police website posted a note, notifying motorists that the servers were running at maximum capacity and urged them to get back after 6pm if they have difficulties in checking their summons details.

Assistant administrative officer Indra Shafawan, 30, took the opportunity to pay RM50 - reduced from RM100 - for a parking offence committed at the KLIA in Sepang.

Security officer Azman Zainol, 26, said he only learned about the post offices being open through the newspapers yesterday morning.

He wasted no time going to the Taman Melawati post office to settle a traffic summons.

Clerk Anwar Lutin, 34, said that he decided to go to the Mindef post office when he learned that it was very crowded at Taman Melawati.

"I saw on the afternoon TV news that it was very crowded at Taman Melawati. So I came here (the Mindef post office)," he said.

Those who do not settle their summonses before today’s deadline will be blacklisted, barring them from renewing their driving licences and road tax.

From tomorrow, motorists will have to pay the full summons fine if they want their names removed from the blacklist.

In JOHOR BARU, the general post office saw more than 3,000 traffic offenders rushing to settle their summonses yesterday.

Supervisor Mohd Fauzan Ibrahim said four counters were opened to accommodate the crowd.

“There were a total of 2,100 people who turned up to settle their summonses on Saturday. On Friday there were 2,650,” he told The Star.

A check at the Johor Baru (South) traffic police depot also revealed a long queue of people.

In IPOH, however, the crowds were smaller.

A retired salesman, who wanted to be known as Ong, said there were fewer people at the police station compared to the past few days. However, Ong said, he had to wait for about two hours to settle his summonses.
At the post office, about 70 people waited their turn to pay.

In PENANG, some 300 people paid their traffic summonses at five counters at the general post office in Downing Street, George Town, from 8.30am to 5pm.

Many motorists also headed to the post offices in Tesco Penang, Queensbay Mall and Carrefour in Seberang Jaya.

Among those at the Downing Street post office was M. Lingeshwaren, 23.

He said he had waited six hours on Saturday at the Bayan Lepas police station, but still failed to settle his fines.

“I came at 10.30am. The queue here is much shorter,” he said.

LONGTERMER #1: Update 32, Feb 2011: Ford Telstar 2.0i4 Ghia Auto

LONGTERMER #1: Update 32, Feb 2011: Ford Telstar 2.0i4 Ghia Auto
In this blog entry, I'm updating my ride. The Ford Telstar 2.0i4 Ghia Auto. This is the 32nd Update. What happened in the month of February?

Firstly, my Front left rim hit a HUGE FAMOUS Pothole in "Jalan Burung Hantu", Kepong.  I sent to repair my dent steel rim.  It costs RM40 (Picture above).  When repairing, I noticed that my front left tyre thread is so BALD that the "Steel Belt" is visible.  (Picture below)
I was offered RM110 to change 1 pair of used (40% thread left) Continental CC1 tyres.  As a result, I got 6 tyres now, 1 in the boot + 1 spare.

Also, on the 1st week of February, it's Chinese New Year.

I went house to house visitation to as far as Taman Sentosa, Klang,  After visiting the Klang open house, we went to eat BAK KUT TEH followed by a drive to "NORTH PORT, KLANG". Lastly, I watched "The Green Hornet" with my friend.  Very GOOD Movie.  Jay Chou is so GOOD in Acting.

On the 2nd day of Chinese New Year, I drove around Damansara Uptown and SS2.  I found that the NORMALLY BUSY locations became "Ghost town" (Empty).  See photos below:
Above: SS2, Outside Savemart, Below, Damansara Uptown.

Above: Damansara Uptown, Below: SS2 (Ambank Row)

On February 15, I went to "Wai Heng Exhaust", Sunway, to changed my Extractor.  The old OEM ones leaked and rusted.  I changed to 4-2-1, Galvanised Extractor.

But it has some side effects.  Engine cut off when Idling and power loss (initially).  I drove to the nearest mechanic, it turns out that my "Distributor" (changed 18 months ago, Proton Eterna chop-shop part) KAPUT already.

After changing the distributor (RM480) still cannot start.  The Mechanic, Mr.Wong discovered that the "Spark Plug Cable" Short circuit. Changed to "Accurex Pro" Spark plug cable.  RM120 poorer. Total RM600 poorer.

For this month, I used RM270 of RON 95 fuel.  I noticed when I pump ESSOMOBIL, my car is 10% more fuel efficient compared to Shell OR Petronas.

Oh! ONE MORE THING, My Telstar is UP FOR SALE AGAIN!  This time its SERIOUS!  Any takers?

This month, I covered 1190km, an increase compared to last month's 957km.  Why?
Because my dad's in KL for 15 days.  Whenever he's in KL, he'll drive his CIVIC HARD.  I have no chance to drive his Civic, hence drive the Telstar more often.  Also, I made 2 Trips to Klang.

Without further ado, let's proceed to logbook:
Mileage last month: 161,472km
Mileage used last month: 957km

Mileage now: 162,662km
Mileage used in February 2011: 1190km

Fuel consumption so far:

Best 10.2km/L (8 June 2010) (80% Highway Driving)
Worst: 5.9km/L (September 14,2009) 90% City driving

This month:

Worst: 6.25km/L (Ron 95, Shell) 9/2/2011 (100% City driving)

0-100km/h: 10.2 seconds (19/2/2011)

Today, as at 28 February 2011,

Expenses this month:
1) Fuel: RM270
2) Extractor RM250
3) Parking: RM100
4) Front tyres + Repair Dent sport rim RM + Balancing = RM150

 TOTAL: RM1370

Before I go, here's some parting shots:

That's all folks!  Thanks for having the time and patience to read this Blog entry of mine...  See you on March 30 for the 33rd update...  It'll be the FINAL UPDATE IF I MANAGE TO SELL MY TELSTAR BY THEN.  AN ORIGINAL JEFF LIM'S PRODUCTION.  My original work...

IDEA: What's after WYY?

Recently, there's a question in The New Straits Times Cars Bikes and Trucks "SMS" Section on "What's after WYY"?

Here are my IDEA/SOLUTIONS:

WA 1234 A till WY 9999 Y

followed by

WAA 1234 A till WYY 9999 Y

Like Kota Kinabalu, SABAH, the last digit will move from A to Y, followed by the front digit.  Eg. WAA 9999 Y then, WAB 1A.

BUT TENDER only open for front Digits.  Eg. "WAA".  The rear Alphabet and number let it run. Eg. WAA 1 A to WAA 9999 Y (let it run).  Then tender for "WAB 1 A to WAB 9999 Y".  Thus, Simplify tender process.

I AM TARGETING THIS NO: WHL 138 J OR WHU4138 L

I hope the Government/JPJ or Relevant Authorities implement my IDEA.

Government To Maintain Present RON 95 And Diesel Prices

Government To Maintain Present RON 95 And Diesel Prices

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- The government will maintain the current fuel price for RON 95 at RM1.90 and diesel at RM1.80 despite the escalating global oil price, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said on Thursday.

It will instead discuss with the Finance Ministry for alternatives to cushion the increase, he said.

"The government will retain current prices and look at other options or alternatives even if the government's load increases.

"So far the situation can be handled without raising the price of RON 95 and diesel," the minister told reporters after announcing Bank Rakyat's annual financial results here.

He said the budget allocated for subsidy this year was RM10.3 billion and if the price trend continued, this could reach up to RM14 billion.

The RM10.3 billion subsidy covers petroleum, RON 95, diesel, LPG gas, sugar, rice and cooking oil.

Last December, the prices of RON 95 and diesel price were each increased five sen to RM1.90 and RM1.80 per litre respectively.

On the alternatives being looked at, he said there would be a review on the petrol and diesel quotas received by certain parties.

Asked when both ministries would finalise the discussion, he said decisions would be made as soon as possible.

"It won't take long. The more time is taken, the higher the amount of subsidy the government would have to bear," he added.

He said as an importer of food products, the country would also have to bear the increase in the prices of imported food products.

Commenting on whether prices for other subsidised products would be increased since the fuel price would not be hiked, Ismail Sabri said the government was not looking to increase the prices of other subsidised products.

"Effective Feb 1, subsidy has been stopped for all factories producing food products and drinks using 500 metric tonnes of sugar a month.

"The government would be able to save RM128 million," he said.

Higher motoring premiums next year

Higher motoring premiums next year

The Star, Friday, February 25, 2011.

PETALING JAYA: Motorists will need to pay more for their insurance premiums from next year under the new motor framework but will reap the benefit of faster claims.

Bank Negara assistant governor Abu Hassan Alshari Yahaya who announced this on Friday said the premiums were not expected to have a material impact on the low-income group and the increases would be “gradual”, spread over four years.

After 2016, the premiums would be liberalised and be determined mostly by market forces.

“The new framework which will encompass efficiency enhancement measures is also expected to improve time taken to settle claims from the current average of 1 year to 5 years to 6 - 18 months,” he said.

Abu Hassan stressed that the adjustment would be gradual and “manageable”, refuting a news report published by a local daily on Thurday which stated that motorists may see premiums rise by about 250% and 450%.

“That is totally incorrect,” Abu Hassan said.

Citing preliminary figures for certain segments, he said for motorcycles 100 cc and below, the increase would be between  an annual RM1-RM3.50 (for third party insurance) and RM1-RM2 (for comprehensive insurance)  whereas for cars 1,500 cc and below,  the increase would be between RM6 to RM34 (third party)  and RM7 and RM19 (comprehensive).

The amount of premiums paid would be dependable on factors such as the vehicle’s age and the motorist’s history of claims.

“The public can take some adjustments, the fact is that  insurance premiums have not been adjusted for a very long time,” he said.

He said engagements had been held with key stake holders  such as the police, hospitals and judiciary and a formation of a joint committee among these stake holders to oversee the effective implementation of the proposed framework’s efficiency enhancement measures would be established.

The current motor insurance rating framework has not been reviewed since 1978 and insurance companies have constantly raised the issue of third party motor insurance business being unprofitable given low premiums which did not commensurate with high claim costs.

According to Bank Negara’s presentations slides, the motor insurance business incurred an estimated annual loss of RM650mil as at 2009/2010.
