CLOSE UP review: Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 MIVEC

In this blog entry I'm covering the Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 MIVEC.  I've actually test driven (5km) short drive back in 9 April 2016.  I procrastinate my ARSE to post it up...

Anyway, this baby's CBU From Japan and priced to sell at RM171,644,80 OTR with insurance.  It comes with 5 years or 100,000km Warranty with 10,000km service intervals.

TECHNICAL BITS:

It's fitted with familiar Lancer 2.4 Sportsback 4B12 engine Mated with CVT with 6 stepped Virtual ratios with paddle shifters producing 167ps@6000rpm and 222Nm@4100rpm.

But this SUV have what Mitsubishi called "Multi-select 4WD system".  There's 3 modes at the push of a button:

A) 4WD ECO: this is 2WD mode with torque focused on the front.  4WD is engaged only when loss of traction is detected
B) 4WD AUTO: Perfect for wet or muddy conditions.  If the wheel slip, torque distribution to the front and rear wheels are optimised.
C) 4WD Lock: This mode maximises traction for all wheels across the revs, enabling it to take on the worst terrains with ease.  But it only works below 50km/h (I was told).

It comes with Electric power assist Rack and Pinion steering and Canggih Suspension (NO Leaf springs here!) in the form of Front MacPherson strut and Rear Multi-link.  Like the Hyundai Santa Fe, this Outlander's chassis are Monocoque instead of Ladder frame.

With dimensions Length x width x height of 4695mm/1810mm/1680mm and wheelbase of 2670mm, this is a C-segment SUV with a 5+2 seats.  It's a Natural competitor to Nissan X-trail.  Being a CBU it's WELL spec'ced with the following lists of equipment:

- LED Headlamps with DRL and front fog lights and headlamp washers

- Electric Tilt-slide sunroof

- Rear LED Combi lamps

- 18" Dual tone alloy rims with 225/55R18 tyres.

- Electric tailgate

- Smartkey operation with Push Start

Used Reconditioned Car Values To Plummet Thanks To Brexit

Note: This is NOT my work.  Article Sourced dsf.my.  I feel it's useful/a keeper, hence I shared here...

Start of article:

The next few weeks will be interesting to see what Malaysian used/reconditioned car dealers are going to do with their existing parked stocks due to Brexit. Why? Well most reconditioned German vehicles in Malaysia are brought in from Britain and purchased by a previous high British currency (Before Brexit announcement).

Pekema members bought their current stock of AP used reconditioned Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Porsche vehicles from Britain with high British exchange rate. Now with Brexit their purchase values are set to be negative in the region between 15-20% lower due to the weaker British currency and also the dwindling used car values in Britain.

This means all future used/reconditioned car imports from the Britain will become more attractive prompting a further surge of used/reconditioned vehicles being imported from Britain hitting our shores in the coming months (wait about 5-6 months to see the real effects). The extent of this will be largely determined by economic factors.

The knock on effects of Brexit are potentially very worrying for both the new and used car markets in Malaysia. Firstly a weakening of British sterling and a surge of cheap UK imports will mean used car values in Malaysia may fall sharply from their current position. This may leave many car buyers in negative equity as the value of the car they are driving falls beneath what they owe to their finance/banks.

The effects of a sharp fall in used car values may be particularly pronounced for Pekema used/reconditioned vehicle importers who are currently holding huge stocks in Malaysia and also in Britain.

It will be a buyers’ market and the deals in the used car lots are going to get evn better in coming months. BE Patient and Wait for it!

Importance of Following Car Manufacturer's Service Schedule

In this blog entry, I'm writing about 3 Wasted Free Service cases by Hyundai and Peugeot respectively.
Let's talk about Hyundai specifically case 1:

Case 1: Customer Bought New Tucson TL Executive from Kuantan late March 2016.  To enjoy the free service coupon, he MUST service his car at 1000km or 1 month whichever earlier.  Apparently, this guy only decided to came in today (almost 3 months later) at 5,000km.  The consequence?

1) 3 years or 50,000km Free Service Coupons VOID.  He must pay for the service.
2) Future Warranty claims Hyundai Sime Darby Motors would be more difficult as they have a point to argue.

This is a classic Example of NOT FOLLOWING Routine Maintenance schedule by car Manufacturer.  1st service or 1000km's vital to flush out excessive metal parts due to new friction inside your engine. Its best to follow suggested break In time as mention on your vehicles manual.

By the way,  Full throttle is not advisable at all with a new vehicle for first 1000km.  The metal parts inside your engine needs to give in or adjust with one another for the best optimal movement.  That's why new engine needs this break in time.

CASE 2: Peugeot 308 Turbo. (source Lowyat Forum by frequency):

Just my piece of advice before you heading to get Peugeot car, especially the 308 Turbo edition. This is what happened to my family member.

Summary:

She purchased a Peugeot 308 on the date 24th of February 2009.

Turbo kit spoilt 3 times under warranty and hitting frequent Depollution Error
Right after warranty expired recently, the turbo kit leaked again! We are so frustrated but still have to fork lots of money and times on it and guess what even worse, right after middle of highway back hometown, the timing chain has broken!

The car has been following the full service and maintenance schedule by Nasim and never been sent to any unauthorized service dealer.

Note: Mileage only 59,000km.  Car is only 4 years old at time of writing (2009)

We have lodged the report to Nasim however they not honor to bear the repair cost.
We have been highlighting the issue in their Facebook but message been deleted..

What a joke that a company doesn't not willing to take into feedback from customers.

Update !
The MD from Peugeot Malaysia has called us and claimed top management has looked into the problem.  No update from him since then.

Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, please Follow Car Manufacturer's Service Schedule.
