Test drive: NEW VW Passat 1.8TSI

CLOSE UP/Test drive: NEW VW Passat 1.8TSI
Last weekend, I brought my Uncle and aunty to Test drive the new Volkswagen Passat 1.8TSI at Volkswagen PJ (FA Wagen) at Lot 7 Jln 51A/222.  The Sales Executive, Ricky is a friendly and professional chap.  He's kind enough to show us the features of The New Passat and arranged for 8km Test drive. Apparently, CKD Passat waiting list 5 months while CBU Passat Ready stock with Discount from RM4000 for 2012 model to RM11,000 discount for 2011 model unregistered.

Information and specifications of this Passat can be found here:
http://www.volkswagen.com.my/

To summarize,  If power is an expression of your personality, then a 1.8l TSI turbocharged engine says quite a bit. The Passat offers an exceptionally smooth ride with its 7-speed direct shift gearbox DSG. Together, they deliver 160PS @ 5000 to 6200rpm and 250Nm @ 1500 to 4200rpm torque and a top speed of 220 km/h and 0-100km/h in 8.5 secs.  Combined average fuel consumption is 7.0l/100km.  TO TOP IT OFF, it came with 5 years Unlimited mileage warranty for peace of mind.

Interior wise, Vienna Leather seats, multifunction steering wheel with Autocruise, 6 airbags, Dual Zone Automatic Climate Control etc...

My Uncle, a 2007 Camry 2.4 Owner benchmark his Camry against this Passat.  Here's the link to his Camry for sale: http://otoreview.blogspot.com/2012/03/wts-toyota-camry-24v-07.html

 Here's what he gotta say:

"The Passat I'd say is marginally smaller than the Camry on the Outside and MUCH smaller on the inside.  The rear head and legroom lose out to Camry but it Counter with MASSIVE Deep and long Boot.
I think the Rear legroom's sacrificed for the HUGE Boot.  Both Camry and Passat offers 60:40 split fold rear seat back.

Seating ergonomics, both cars tied.  Driving experience, the Passat's WAY BETTER with far superior pickup, better comfort and Ride and handling.  The Camry's Auto gearbox can be jerky and ride and handling's Hopeless in B-roads.  In conclusion, I'll definitely consider this Passat but I shall wait till June for the ALL NEW Camry.  Here's hoping they solve the Hopeless Ride and Handling and jerky gearbox".

Well, there's a saying a picture's worth 1000 words.  Here are some photos:

That's all folks, thanks for having the time and patience to read this blog entry.  Jeff Lim's original production.

Hi Jeff, what a nice review and your comments. That is what I am looking for "review". Maybe you could do same thing on latest BMW 3 series? Maybe the 328i? Thanks
