NEW Mondeo Previewed at BSC last weekend

The 2015 Ford Mondeo EcoBoost codename CD391 (aka. Ford Fusion in North America) is Open for Booking now...  Estimated price RM203,000 with GST.  It's CBU From Valencia, Spain.  

The car was displayed at BSC from 1 to 5 April 2015.  I was there on the 4th April.  There's a lot of crowds which prevented me from taking any decent shots.  Also, Ford Malaysia ran out of leaflets or the spec-sheet.  I walked away from the test drive because 45 minutes queue and after finding out the Super short test drive route.  Adding salt to the would, it's RAINING Heavily.

Colour choices: Tectonic Silver, Frozen White, Ruby Red and Phantom Black only.  I was disappointed the Ford signature colour, Winning Blue didn't make it.

CLOSE UP: Ford Fiesta 1.0 ECOBOOST.

In this blog entry, I'm posting a Close up of the Ford Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost.  This is CBU Thailand and despite 3 cyl 1000cc, it generates 125ps and 170Nm or torque, thanks to direct injection, Variable-valve timing and Turbo.  Note that this engine, awarded "International Engine of The Year" in 2012 AND 2013!  It's priced at RM93,888 OTR without insurance.

Sadly, only Hatchback is available and is paired with 6 speed Dual-clutch Powershift gearbox. Claimed fuel consumption is 5.3l/100km and claimed 0-100km/h is 9.7 secs and 190km/h top speed.

Unfortunately, Ford Distributor SDAC decided to deck the Car with Hideous bodykits and "Loud" stickers.  All is NOT LOST, despite priced RM14,000 more than the 1.5 Sport and Titanium, this baby have the following EXTRAS:

- 13ps and 30Nm torque more than 1.5, thanks to the Direct injection, Turbo.

- 7 airbags vs 2.

- LED Day running lights

- Hideous Bodykits

- "Ecoboost" Stickers everywhere.

- 5.3l/100km down from 6.9l/100km average fuel consumption.

Colour choices:  Limited to White, Red and Black only.  Sad right?

I didn't manage to test drive the baby due to Rain and the fact that they are closing when I reached there at 6pm.

Verdict: 8.5/10.

Close up: Ford S-MAX Ecoboost facelift

What's new?

Firstly, new heart.  Now equipped with a higher pressure turbo at 240hp and 340Nm or torque mated with 6 speed Powershift Dual Clutch gearbox.  This is an increase from 200hp and 300Nm torque previously.

This is the same engine as New Mondeo and Volvo S60 T6.  Combined fuel consumption of 8.1/100km and 0-100km/h in STONKING 8.2 seconds and top speed equally STONKING 235km/h.  Performance wise, only the VW Sharan with Golf GTI engine comes close.  But it costs RM45,000 more...

Secondly, it now has XXL Panoramic Fixed Glass roof, Higher quality fabric seats, Bi-xenon headlights with DRL and headlamp washer and finally the price: It's now RM13,000 dearer than before.

The S-max inherits the Mondeo famous Control Blade multi-link rear suspension.  Rest assured that ride and handling will be legendary.  Class leading I'd say.  It also comes with Fold flat rear seats.  "Boot space" goes from 285 litres to a WHOOPING 1711 litres in 2 seater mode.

My rating: 8/10.  Deduct marks for questionable maintenance costs and after sales service and cramped 3rd row seats.
