Longtermer 5: Hyundai i10 1.25 CVVT 5th year ownership report

In this blog entry, I'm updating my Ownership experience of my 2012 Registered March 2013 Hyundai i10 1.25 CVVT.  This is the 60th month or 5th year I owned the car.  I took delivery of this car on 14 March 2013.  Sorry for 2 weeks late update, I've Upgraded the ECU (5th anniversary present), monitoring the FC and performance.

I sent the I10 for "75,000km service" back in January 8, 2018.   In reality, it's 63,000km only as it's calculated by months.  Like my previous 2 service, I used Fully Synthetic Shell Helix Ultra, thus stretching service intervals to 6 months OR 10,000km.  Note to ALL Hyundai Owners, Hyundai Sime Darby is not as strict as Peugeot, VW OR Kia.  They allow 15 days OR 1,000km +/- tolerance level.  

Back in June 2017, I upgraded my Car DVR and Custom made Coil mats.

During my last service on 8 January 2018, I changed the ATF, Fully synthetic Oil, spark plugs, Brake fluid, Alignment and balancing.  I was told the front brake pads (296), Cabin filter (72) and rear absorbers (RM734) needs changing.  I bought these parts outside at PH Auto Sea Park for RM68.90, RM37.10 and RM328.60 respectively.  

I decided to Change my Brake pads, cabin filter and Rear absorbers outside.

  Guess what, I bought the Brake pads to my Friend shop San Xing Auto, Puchong.  The mechanic said Old brake pads still have 50% left.  I was advised not to change, keep it.  As for the Absorbers, I bought for RM328.60 + RM25 labor) (Service center quoted me RM736.00 including labor).

2 weeks ago, I renewed the Road tax (RM72.10 - post office price) and Insurance (RM445.35) Tokio Marine comprehensive for RM21,000.

On 14 March 2018, I gave the i10 his 5th Birthday Present.  Piggyback ECU Upgrade by RS Dynotune, Puchong worth RM650.

Basically my Horsepower down by 4.8ps while my torque increased 25%.  70% of torque came in as low as 3000rpm.  Car's more nippy.  FC improved slightly by 10% after finished 2 Full tank.

Purchase price: RM45,500 (cause Year Make 2012 registered 2013 March)

Current value: RM21,000.

Interest rate: 2.96% (PBB) for 48 months loan @ 25,000.

 Monthly RM582.

 FUEL CONSUMPTION SO FAR:

 BEST: 14.7km/l . RM70 =  457km.

 WORST: 9km/l.  RM70 = 270km. 100% CITY.

COMBINED AVERAGE: 11.5km/l.

2) Annual Roadtax (70) and insurance renewal (RM445 for RM21,000 insured)

SHOULD YOU BUY THIS CAR?

This is a Very Solid car with decent soundproofing, Great Ride and handling and high speed stability.  Check out the Top speed: 175km/h.  And 0-100km/h in 12.2 seconds.

 Test drive to agree with me.  There's a reason behind...

Apparently the i10's Engineered, designed and tuned in India.  This is to meet Indians requirements.  This explained the Robustness of the chassis and suspension.  Built to take on Indian Roads...  If the i10 can survive Indian Roads, then Malaysian road conditions are piece of cake.  

Note that our i10s are CKD, but the CKD pack Came from INDIA.  The i10's only produced in 3 countries and NONE are Korea.  It's Kulim, Malaysia, Chennai India and Mexico.  

OVERALL I have NO REGRET Buying this Hyundai i10.  Rating 9/10.  Can't wait to service outside once 5 years warranty over.  As some of its spare parts price were heavily marked up.  Eg. Brake pads, plugs, absorbers and Engine mountings.

LONGTERMER #3, Vol 9: Proton Waja 1.6 4G18(A)

In this blog entry, I'm updating my daily ride, Proton Waja 4G18 (A) 2001. This is the 9th update and happened to be my 1st year anniversary owning this car.

Yes, I bought this car from my Uncle exactly 1 year ago.  Mileage bought 128,548km.  Mileage now is 138,686km (more on that later).  Averaged 845km per month only.

This 2 months is a "BUSY" Month and lots of happenings for my Waja.

Firstly, on Mid May, I finally changed my brake pads.  The brand is "BESTFORMBRAKES" Ceramic NAO (Non Asbestos something).  I bought it from a Lowyat Forummer at RM70 only (reflected in my last update).  See photos below:


Then, on 10 July 2012, I changed my front tyres from Goodyear NCT5 to Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max 195/55R15.  I paid RM210 per tyre (Ie. RM420 total).  This includes free 4 tyre valves and balancing which is good deal in my book. Though the tyres' manufactured in 4411 (week 44, 2011).  I changed the tyres at "Chuan Ann Auto (Sunwaymas) Sdn,Bhd.  It's a Goodyear Dealer (listed in Goodyear Malaysia).  See photos below:

On 11 July, I send my Waja for round 1 dyno at RS Dynotune Puchong. The result: 98.6hp@6000rpm (80.4whp) and a pathetic 126Nm @ 5000rpm of torque. Round 2 to follows 2 days later as I have something in store.  RM100 for 2 runs. (see photos below)



The next day (12 July) was my 1st year anniversary owning the Waja. I treat the Waja for an ECU Reflash called "Killer Rom Ultimate" (see photos below). Being a 2001 car, the Waja needs to be stripped off the Centre console to reach the ECU (the "flasher" said 2003 model don't need).  See photos below:

The Cost: RM850 poorer.   The Effect: Rev cut at 7500rpm, speed cut 190km/h removed, car feels lighter, rev happier, reaches 110km/h faster and lastly more fun to drive.

But 1 day later, 13 July, round 2 dyno shows disappointment.  The Waja have great improvement in Max hp (Now 102.7hp@6000rpm (90.2whp). Slight increase at crank hp but WHOOPING 9.8whp increased in whp (wheel hp). But and a big but, torque was relatively Unchanged.  Still 126Nm with same rev at 5000rpm. I was so pissed of the outcome that I called "the flasher" demanding for answer.  He said the torque was LIMITED BY YOUR AUTOMATIC GEARBOX. Now I wish someone can reprogram the gearbox as well.

All is not lost, the drivability is there and FC Increased by leaps and bounds too. Previously 110km = 1/3 tank gone. As I'm typing this, 110km, the fuel gauge only moved by 0.2cm (ie. dropped 0.2cm from full tank). Here's hoping I can reach 600km per 60 litre full tank VS 420km averaged previously.

Without further ado, let's proceed to LOGBOOK:

BEST: 12.8km/l. 100% highway driving (to Penang). 700km per full tank.
WORST: 6.85km/l 100% City driving. 2 hours KL traffic jam. Mere 342km per full tank.


LAST 2 months:

Best: 8.65km/l

Worst: 7.6km/l

Performance:
0-100km/h 12.9 secs (slight downhill and 13.3 secs flat road before ECU Reflash. 11.1 secs (after reflash)


EXPENSES:

1) Ambi pur (9.90 @ Tesco)

3) Workmanship for Brake pads: RM30 (Ah Choy @ Jln Block C, Happy Mansion, Jln 17/13)
4) Fuel: RM237 (Once Shell, else Esso).

1) New tyres. Goodyear Assurance Fuel max: RM420 (210x2)
2) DYNO Runs: RM100

4) Fuel: RM190 (Esso all the way)
5) Parking: RM50 (averaged RM2 per day, 4 days/week MPPJ parking plus some shopping mall parking charges)
6) Toll: RM15 (estimate)
Total: WHOOPING RM1,645.
