RON97 up 10 sen/L at midnight, sources say

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 — The price of RON97 petrol will be increased by 10 sen to RM2.50 effective midnight, according to industry sources.

The price of the premium fuel was last raised on January 4, also by 10 sen.

The government announced on July 16 last year that the price of RON97 will be subjected to a managed float to reflect the price of oil on the global market.

The latest increase will, however, not affect other fuels.

The base grade RON95 petrol remains at RM1.90 per litre, diesel at RM1.80 per litre, and LPG at RM1.90 per kg. The government currently subsidises 30 sen of the RON 95 fuel cost.

The Najib administration has opted to gradually slash subsidies as a way to reduce government deficit.

The government’s Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) had said last year that savings from fuel subsidy cuts amounted to about RM3 billion last year. This number will rise to RM14 billion this year, RM21 billion in 2012, RM29.5 billion in 2013, and RM35 billion in 2014.

Harga petrol RON95, diesel, Petroleum Gas Cecair (LPG) dan gula dijangka mengalami kenaikan lagi mulai tengah malam ini. Ia berikutan keputusan kerajaan menyelaraskan kadar subsidi.

Petrol RON95, dipercayai akan dinaikkan 5 sen menjadikan harga RM1.90 seliter.

Dua hari lalu, petrol RON 97 naik sebanyak 15 sen kepada RM2.30 seliter. Kenaikan itu berikutan perubahan harga pasaran yang diapungkan sejak Julai lalu.

Harga diesel pula dipercayai dinaikkan 5 sen menjadikannya RM1.80 seliter manakala gas LPG juga naik 5 sen menjadikan harganya RM1.90 sekilogram.

Harga gula pula dikatakan akan naik 20 sen menjadikan harganya RM2.10 sekilogram.

Semua harga baru dijangka berkuatkuasa pada jam 12.01 pagi esok. Ia didedahkan pada taklimat kepada editor di Putrajaya oleh Unit Pengurusan Prestasi dan Perlaksanaan (PEMANDU) .

Malaysiakini turut dijemput ke taklimat itu melalui panggilan telefon tetapi wartawan kami dihalang memasuki ibupejabat Unit Kordinasi dan Pelaksanaan di Pejabat Perdana Menteri, kemudiannya tanpa sebarang alasan.

Pengumuman rasmi daripada Jabatan Perdana Menteri berhubung kenaikkan ini dijangkakan pada jam 8 malam.

Kali terakhir harga barangan meningkat adalah pada 15 Julai lalu. Ia membabitkan kenaikan 5-dalam-1. Barangan yang terjejas itu adalah dua gred petrol, diesel, gula dan gas.

My (JEFF LIM'S) OPINION:

"I just don't get this mechanism and the logic behind.  When the fuel price DOWN, our fuel price REMAINED THE SAME, BUT When the FUEL PRICE UP, we follow suit."  When is this going to end.  My Neighbourhood Coffee shop in Section 17, PJ, "HOWYEKEE" (PICTURE BELOW) just increased ALL THEIR FOOD AND DIMSUM BY AT LEAST 10% ACROSS THE BOARD (Up to 25% for Drinks) back in August. Eg. Economy Rice now RM3.90 (from 3.60), Taai Pau now RM3 from RM2.80, Siu Maai from 1.60 to 1.80, Small Noodle now RM4.50 from RM4. Now I can see that they'll have another REASON to HIKE THE PRICE!

ALL THEY NEED TO CUT is their OWN GOVERNMENT Expenditure.  Eg. NEW Prime Minister's Residence, ANOTHER PARLIAMENT RENOVATION, SCRAP the 100-storey TOWER MEGA PROJECTS, 10% PAY CUT in ALL GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS' STAFF (1.3 million of them and counting) and the amount is of SAVING'S DEFINITELY MORE THAN FUEL HIKE.
