LONGTERMER #3, Vol 1: Proton Waja 1.6 4G18 (A)

On 10 July 2011 (ie. yesterday), my uncle passed me a 2001 Waja 1.6 Auto.  This is the 1st batch of 4G18 engined Waja.  My Uncle kept the Waja 100% STOCK STANDARD.  Down to the Catalytic Converter and 15" rims and standard size tyres.  Among the few things he invested were Front stabilizer bar, "DENSO Iridium Spark Plugs" and Grounding cables.

Mileage as I took over was 128,548km.  Quite low for a 10 years old car.  The previous owner also have FULL SERVICE RECORD.

INTERIOR:

One word VERY SPACIOUS.  In fact, it's MORE SPACIOUS than the Inspira ALL ROUND.  Head/legroom/shoulder room, Boot space (Deeper and wider).  Deeper boot due to "Space saving spare tyre" as opposed to FULL SIZE spare tyre.

As seen in these pictures below, I'm 5 feet 9 and look at the excellent head and legroom.

Among the features I like were 60/40 split fold rear seatbacks, 3 point rear CENTRE seatbelt.

Something even my dad's RM128,000 Civic lacks (believe it or not, the Civic still using "LAP BELT").

DRIVE TIME:

Man, this car deserves a lot of praises for it's EXCELLENT Lotus Ride and handling.  It's like saying "It's that all you get, I WANT MORE TWISTY roads...".  Also, acceleration is surprisingly nippy for a 103hp@6000rpm and 142Nm@2750rpm car.  0-100km/h in about 12 secs +/-.  Not bad for an ALMOST STOCK 4 speed automatic car.   It rolled over speed humps and bumps like nothing.  One time I drove past "invisible" speed humps @ 50km/h.  The car just glides over the hump "SELAMBA JE".

I haven't driven this baby on Highways yet.  Watch this space same time next month when I put this baby for HIGH SPEED STABILITY TEST.

MISCELLANEOUS:

This Waja's still in Excellent condition in ORIGINAL Arctic Blue paint and unmarked seats.  According to the previous owner, his last trip to Penang 2 months ago, he managed to drove the car from Kepong to Penang, drive around Penang and PUMPED petrol ON THE WAY BACK at Tapah!  Total mileage 700km on a 55l tank!  This amounts to 12.7km/l.  He drove between 90 - 110km/h constantly.  Very impressive for a 4 speed Automatic car.

I reviewed the Waja/Impian with "Detailed specifications" and other owner's comments back in March 2008.  Click here: http://otoreview.blogspot.com/2008/03/full-review-proton-waja-impian-16x.html.

Well, there's a saying a picture's worth 1000 words... Here are some photos:

STOCK STANDARD rims and OEM Goodyear NCT 195/55R15 tyres (Changed 2 rounds)

OVERALL MORE SPACIOUS than INSPIRA.  Note the Rear 12V Sockets.

12V Power Socket.  This is the 2nd one.  The 1st one is disguised as "Cigarette lighter".
Dashboard slanting towards the driver (ala BMW/Alfa Romeo).
 Another QUINTESSENTIAL feature.  Lockable glovebox.
 Power adjustable door mirrors.
Door courtesy lights, power windows switch and flushed front speakers.
Unmarked front seats.  Not bad for a 10 years old car.

 EXCELLENT  408 litres BOOT SPACE

 Thick C"pillar means Blind spots...
ABOVE:  Day/night Dash meter.

Above: Deep Centre console and twin front cupholders.

Above: Night and Day headlights + foglights.

BEFORE I GO: Here's a parting shot: FRONT OF THE WAJA 1.6.

I "borrowed" this car from my Uncle which is the 1st owner until the road tax expired on May 2012.  Then only change name...

That's all folks, thanks for having the time and patience to read this blog entry.  See you on 11 August for the next update.  An original Jeff Lim's production.  My Original work.

(CAN"T UPLOAD PHOTOS, WILL UPLOAD AGAIN).  Photos uploaded as at 2320hrs.
