Why i10?
Winner of over 40 awards worldwide including (in Malaysia):
Car of the year NST/Maybank 2009,2010 and 2011 Best City Car. (That's 3 years in a ROW!)
Autocar ASEAN Awards 2010 best city car
Asian Auto Compact City Car of the year 2010
Asian Auto 1st in fuel economy challenge awards 5.0l/100km
Asian Auto VCA 2009, Best People's car.
EURO NCAP 4 stars (Safest city car around - though UK sample car came with 4 airbags.
Note that 4 stars EURO NCAP is the MAXIMUM for 4 Airbags car. To achieve 5 stars in EURO NCAP, a car must have at least 6 airbags and any form of Traction Control (ESP/VSA/VSC) - when the i10 was crash tested in UK back in 2009.
Despite only 1248cc CVVT, the 4 cylinder timing chain driven generates 87ps @ 6,000rpm with torque of 120Nm @ 4,000rpm. IDENTICAL TO Wira 1.5 in power and torque. It's 9ps and 20Nm better horsepower and torque than it's nearest competitor Mitsubishi Mirage ECO Car 3A92, 3 cylinder 1197cc DOHC MIVEC at 78ps and 100Nm torque.
Note that the Mirage GS's RM9,000 more expensive at RM65,000 OTR (RM14,500 more expensive if you opt for Standard spec year made 2013). Though it buys you Driver seat height adjustable (the i10 lacks), Auto Climate Control, SMART KEY with PUSH START/STOP button, better Kenwood 2-DIN Head unit, much better Legroom (same headroom, but poorer shoulder room - ie. Mirage cannot seat 3 adults comfortably), smooth INVECS-III CVT Gearbox and lastly 10 litres more boot space (235 litres in Mirage vs 225 litres in the i10).
Safety wise, both Mirage and the i10 comes with ABS and EBD and Dual Airbags. The i10 have 2 more advantage over the Mirage namely Passenger Side Front Airbag on/off switch (can put Baby seat in front) and ISOFIX Child seat anchor point.
Performance wise, 0-100km/h in 12.2 seconds (Tested by Whatcar? UK) vs 12.0 seconds in the Mirage CVT and Top speed 170km/h (tested by Autoworld's YS Khong) vs 155km/h in the Mirage.
BUT THE BOTTOM LINE, the Mirage don't have the "CONTINENTAL CAR FEEL" and Solidness (heavier doors, boot lid and bonnet) of the Hyundai i10. Also, the Comfort and Ride and handling lose to Hyundai i10. Though the Mirage fights back with silky smooth CVT gearbox vs 4 speed automatic in the i10. Trust me, I driven both the Hyundai i10 and the Mitsubishi Mirage 1.2 GS. Come to my showroom and test drive to agree with me.
Well, there's a saying a picture's worth 1000 words, here are the photo gallery:
Above: Special 2 tone Leather seats. For Tangy Orange, Ice Silver and Peach white it's Orange and Black. leather trim combination. For Pink, Purple, Carbon grey and Aquamarine Blue it's the above leather combination.
Above: NEW Design Alloy rims with 165/60R14 Goodyear tyres. Same size as Standard Spec.
Above under front passenger seat tray. Below: New feature: Passenger Airbag On/off switch. Off it when you want to put your baby seat in front.
Above: Another new feature, 2x ISOFIX Child seat anchor point.
This is 1248cc Kappa CVVT Engine. Combined fuel consumption is 12 cents per km. Tested by Asian Auto Fuel Economy challenge 5.0l/100km (not sure how they test).
Above: Decent front and rear Interior space. Space wise, It's between Viva and Myvi.
Lastly, the Indicator/wiper stalks are like European cars. Indicator on the left and wipers on the right. This is totally opposite from NORMAL Hi-spec Edition.
