MEGA Close up: Hyundai Elantra MD 2013

In this blog entry, I'm posting a MEGA PHOTO GALLERY on Hyundai Elantra 1.6 and 1.8 MD.  110+ photos to be exact.  In this photo gallery, you'll SEE ALL 7 Colours of the Elantra MD in full glory.

Back then, I rated the car 6/10 due to my misconception of this car.  You see, I thought it's CKD back then.  But I discovered something in October 2012.  The Elantra MD's actually SKD (Semi-Knock Down) from South Korea.  NOT CKD as I previously thought.  The car's Assembled in Korea.  Doors, lights and tyres taken out before shipping to Malaysia and "Reassembled" in Kulim, Kedah.  This is to get lower price.  I heard from Hyundai Sime Darby HQ, if they didn't do this, the Price will be RM15,000 higher.

I also driven both the 1.6 and 1.8 back to back.  Guess what, the 1.6 High Spec is up to 20% more Economical per full tank, almost identical in acceleration, has sweeter engine sound, better Sound system (From Korea) vs Locally fitted Flyaudio OR Hanns DVD, GPS Touchscreen player and lastly, RM16,000 Cheaper.  Ie. the 1.6 High spec's more BANG-FOR-THE-BUCK than the 1.8.  

The 1.8 Premium excels at High speed highway cruising where the 20hp extra Max power and 21Nm extra torque outshines the 1.6. Fuel consumption in Highway is very Close to the 1.6 variant.  At 100km/h cruising at Nkve, the Rpm is at 1900rpm only. This is make possible thanks to the 6 speed Automatic gearbox.  Extras like Cruise Control, 10 way electrical adjustable Driver seat (more versatile seating position), Nappa Leather (more comfortable) and Electric Tilt-slide glass Sunroof (think Genting trip) makes it a PERFECT Outstation runner.

Put it this way, for City driving and Fuel Economy go for 1.6 High Spec priced at RM98,888 OTR With insurance.  For Highway cruising, comfort and frequent outstation trip, go for the 1.8 Premium priced at RM114,888 OTR with insurance.  You can't go wrong with either 1.6 High Spec or 1.8 Premium.  I don't recommend 1.6 Std as it lacks VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) aka. Advanced Traction control and supervision cluster aka. Trip computer!

Hyundai Elantra 1.6 Std Manual's GOOD BUY too at RM88,888 OTR with Insurance but heard it produced 1 batch every 4 months so be prepared for LONG WAIT.  You've been warned.

Note that ALL MODELS Don't come with Paddle shift and Electronic folding side mirrors.

Hence I review my rating.  New rating: 8/10 for 1.6 Std 6 speed Manual, 7/10 for 1.6 Std Auto, 8.5/10 for 1.6 High Spec and 8.5/10 for FULLY LOADED 1.8 Premium.
