The car I test driven was the Highest spec that comes with Smart key with Push Start/Stop, Leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, Automatic Climate control air cond and front fog light.
Standard across the range's 14" Alloy rims with 165/65R14 tyres, 2 DIN Kenwood Audio system with USB and IPOD Interface (multi-colour display too), 3 Height adjustable headrests and lastly, 60:40 split folding rear seats.
Colour choices: Lemonade Yellow Metallic, Grey Mica, Red metallic, Pearl white and Silver Metallic (see photo below).
Apparently 70% of the bookings were for HIGHEST Spec GS CVT which priced at RM64,980 OTR with insurance (that's RM65,000 rounded up). This is RM3000 more than GL CVT and RM8,000 more than GL Manual.
Despite using 3A92, 3 cylinder 1193cc DOHC MIVEC engine across the range, it produced respectable figures. Max power 78ps@6000rpm and max torque 100Nm@4000rpm. Note that this is a Lightweight car at 850kg for CVT and 825kg for Manual.
Claimed Fuel consumption's 21km/l mixed driving and claimed Aerodynamics' Cd 0.30.
HOW'S THE DRIVE?
As I enter the car, I can't help noticing the Cheap plastics around the dashboard and door panels. Thank God the Seat's supportive and comfortable with Height adjustable (something the Hyundai i10 lacks).
My test route's only 4 km to and fro. But during the test drive, I managed to hit 110km/h at a short stretch in Jalan Universiti (outside Jaya One). The INVECS-III CVT gearbox lags a bit upon take off but from 30km/h onwards, it's smooth SEEMLESS performer. As there's no gear ratio = no shifting jerk and NO Kickdown versus 4 speed auto found in its competitors namely MYVI 1.3, Hyundai I10.
Another notable mention's the TIGHT 4.4m radius turning circle.
It shines from 50 to 110km/h. The 0-100km/h's QUICK for such a Small car. Around 12 secs only. With 2 person on board, this is a NIPPY little car. Slightly more powerful in acceleration and quieter than Hyundai I10. But in terms of Ride and handling, Solidness and Sound proofing, the Hyundai i10 still prevails. You see, the i10 got "Big Car feel" and the door's and bonnet's much heavier.
The LEGROOM and HEADROOM's EXCELLENT. I'd say the Legroom's Class leading, headroom's normal. Only disappointment's Shoulder room, Cannot seat 3 adults side by side comfortably. Note that the NISSAN Almera also have this problem so it's expected for such a Narrow car.
Above EXCELLENT Legroom, Below: EXCELLENT Headroom
Overall rating: 6/10.
PROS: Great acceleration, smooth as silk CVT gearbox, EXCELLENT HEADROOM AND LEGROOM, driver Seat height adjust (something the Hyundai i10 lacked), comfortable seats. 235 litres boot space is 10 litre better than bigger Suzuki Swift 1.4 which cost RM15,000 more).
CONS: Marks deducted for Cheap plastics, below average ride and handling, poor
soundproofing and solidness and lastly EXPENSIVE (RM65,000 OTR for such a SMALL CAR).
Without further ado, let's proceed to photo gallery as a photo's 1000 words. Enjoy:
Above: No quoted boot space. A search in Google mentioned it's 235 litres which is pretty good for it's size. This is better than Suzuki New Swift 1.4 at 225 litres.
Above: Automatic Climate Control Standard for Range topping RM65,000 GS only.
Again, Keyless entry with Push Start/Stop standard for RM65,000 Range topping GS only.
Above: SMOOTH INVECS-III CVT Gearbox.
Above: Good dashboard layout, everything is within reach but Plastic quality's CHEAP!
Above: Multi-colour Kenwood 2-DIN CD/MP3/WMA player with USB and IPOD Control.
Above: Looks like Proton Savvy at this angle.
