Driving tests using auto cars deferred

KUALA LUMPUR: Driving tests using automatic transmission vehicles that was to have been implemented last month has been delayed pending approval of the allocation to print the relevant books and material for driving schools with the introduction of the new driving education curriculum. 

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri, in disclosing this, said the estimated expenditure was RM5 million. 

"The new curriculum is ready and we expect the tests to be implemented within this year," he said.

The Government had announced that the switch to automatic transmission vehicles would be done in May to enable more Malaysians, especially the older generation and women, to obtain a valid driving licence. 

The new curriculum stresses on producing courteous and disciplined drivers, while the old curriculum had emphasised on dexterity and comprehension of traffic rules.
